Where have all the good shows gone and why are there so few? It’s so frustrating, even my Tivo is barren of anything new or interesting. There’s so many reruns, reality shows, or just junk that’s been recycled for the millionth time that I sometimes wonder if the Writer’s strike is still on…
In the near future, I’m not sure there’s anything on the horizon. Friday is the start of SG Atlantis, and although I watch the show consistently, I think it lacks a lot of the emotional depth a good SciFi show should have (Battlestar Galactica sets a high bar when it comes to Scifi and drama). The previous season of SGA ended with the cast being buried in a explosion, but it’s been done so many times, I didn’t fear the loss of the characters.
Even the old standby channels like, Discovery, Science, and The History Channel are full of lame old reality shows, and reruns of anything that might have been interesting the first time. Seriously, what do Ice Road Truckers have to do with history?
Lately, I’ve been watching a lot of BBC America. I have to say, I’m finding a lot of the BBC shows more interesting then the same recycled junk they show on our big networks. I guess that’s why we’re slowly stealing their sitcoms (The Office). My Favorites right now are Top Gear, Coupling, and Not Going Out. Doctor Who and Torchwood are also on BBC America but I see those shows through other resources like HDnet and the SciFi Channel. (BBC America is not broadcast in high definition over my satellite connection.)
So, here I am, twiddling my thumbs waiting for the fall season to begin…
